    Bavarian Forest

The Bavarian Forest or in German the 'Bayerische Wald' is a mountain range about 100 km long and up to 1456 m a. s. l. Normal altitude zero high low mountain range on the border between (Bavaria) Germany and Czech_Republic. The majority of these are located in the Lower Bavaria. The northern part belongs to the Upper Palatinatein the south, the Bavarian Forest extends to the border with Upper Austria.

Geologically and geomorphologically, it belongs to the Bohemian Forest - the highest Truncated upland of the Bohemian Massif - and has been distinguished from it in particular since around 1830, when the area was incorporated into the Hochstifte Regensburg and Passau had become Bavarian throughout.

Along the Czech border, the mountains became the Bavarian Forest National Park whose dense vegetation is slowly developing into a native forest. The protected area has several information centres and a network of hiking trails and continues across the border in the larger National Park (Šumava) continued. (Source: Wikipedia)
